How to use the laminate floor repair kit
Repairing laminate flooring with Fix-A-Floor is easy – just drill and fill!
How to repair loose laminate floorboards – pick your applicator
To get started with our DIY laminate repair kits, you need to choose which Fix-A-Floor applicator is best for your floor. We provide 10:1 ratio caulking guns as well as a precision applicator, ideal for floors with gaps of 2-3 mm or less.
Fixing gaps without removing floor panels – start drilling!
Now you know your applicator size, you choose a corresponding size of drill bit. Slide your laminate boards back into place and drill into your flooring in the most inconspicuous places possible, ideally at the joints.
Inject your Fix-A-Floor adhesive
Using either the caulk gun or precision applicator, squeeze your Fix-A-Floor adhesive into one of the holes in your flooring until you see adhesive start to rise out of the nearest hole. Repeat this with every other hole and then wipe away any excess adhesive with a damp cloth or sponge.
Weigh it down and walk away
Once you’ve applied the laminate floor filler, grab a weight, such as a half-filled bucket of water, and place it over the treated area. Now, walk away and leave the adhesive to cure for a minimum of 24 hours (high humidity areas such as bathrooms may require longer). Once the adhesive cures, you’re good to go!

Laminate floor maintenance tips
There are a few steps you can take to avoid needing to repair laminate flooring in the first place.
Preventing gaps between laminate planks
- Before installation, let the planks sit in the room where they’ll be installed for around two to three days – this will allow them to acclimatise to the temperature and humidity, reducing size changes
- Leave an expansion gap of around ¼ of an inch between the planks and the walls
- Use appropriate underlay when installing to ensure a balance between comfort and durability
Keeping laminate floors water resistant
- Clean up spills quickly, as any standing moisture can soak into your floor and damage the boards
- Apply a water repellent treatment
Take care with heavy items
- Don’t drag heavy items or furniture across your floor, as it can cause gaps to emerge
