How to use the laminate floor repair kit

Repairing laminate flooring with Fix-A-Floor is easy – just drill and fill!

  • How to repair loose laminate floorboards – pick your applicator

To get started with our DIY laminate repair kits, you need to choose which Fix-A-Floor applicator is best for your floor. We provide 10:1 ratio caulking guns as well as a precision applicator, ideal for floors with gaps of 2-3 mm or less.

  • Fixing gaps without removing floor panels – start drilling!

Now you know your applicator size, you choose a corresponding size of drill bit. Slide your laminate boards back into place and drill into your flooring in the most inconspicuous places possible, ideally at the joints.

Inject your Fix-A-Floor adhesive

Using either the caulk gun or precision applicator, squeeze your Fix-A-Floor adhesive into one of the holes in your flooring until you see adhesive start to rise out of the nearest hole. Repeat this with every other hole and then wipe away any excess adhesive with a damp cloth or sponge.

Weigh it down and walk away

Once you’ve applied the laminate floor filler, grab a weight, such as a half-filled bucket of water, and place it over the treated area. Now, walk away and leave the adhesive to cure for a minimum of 24 hours (high humidity areas such as bathrooms may require longer). Once the adhesive cures, you’re good to go!

Key benefits and features

Cost effective – Fix-A-Floor is a permanent way to repair laminate flooring, saving you on future repair costs

Precise – with a choice of applicators, you can inject your Fix-A-Floor exactly where you need it

Just drill and fill – it really is that simple; Fix-A-Floor gap fixer is about as easy as floor repair gets

Safe for all surfaces – our adhesive is safe for all kinds of flooring, from laminate and wood to tiles and even underfloor heating

Why do laminate floors shift?

Moisture – high moisture levels in your home or spills can cause your laminate to warp or buckle

Wear and tear – everyday life will take its toll on your flooring over time, causing scratches, chips and movement

Temperature – repeated changes in temperature can cause your floor to expand and contract, changing its shape over time

Poor installation – one of the biggest issues is poor installation, making movement and gaps more likely

DIY laminate floor repair has never been so simple!

Laminate floor maintenance tips

There are a few steps you can take to avoid needing to repair laminate flooring in the first place.

Preventing gaps between laminate planks

  • Before installation, let the planks sit in the room where they’ll be installed for around two to three days – this will allow them to acclimatise to the temperature and humidity, reducing size changes
  • Leave an expansion gap of around ¼ of an inch between the planks and the walls
  • Use appropriate underlay when installing to ensure a balance between comfort and durability

Keeping laminate floors water resistant

  • Clean up spills quickly, as any standing moisture can soak into your floor and damage the boards
  • Apply a water repellent treatment

Take care with heavy items

  • Don’t drag heavy items or furniture across your floor, as it can cause gaps to emerge

FAQs

How long does the repair process take for laminate flooring?

Fixing your floor with the Fix-A-Floor laminate repair kit is quick and easy. Drilling and filling your flooring should take less than an hour and then the adhesive needs as little as 24 hours to cure.

Is the adhesive safe for pets and children?

While our adhesive doesn’t contain any toxic substances and has an extremely low viscosity, we recommend keeping children and pets from handling or going near the adhesive. The laminate floor repair kit also contains several small and sharp pieces that could be harmful.

What tools do I need to repair laminate flooring?

Our laminate floor repair kits come with most of the equipment you’ll need, but you should also have a drill, a damp cloth or sponge and a weighted object on hand.

Can I repair laminate floors without removing them?

Absolutely! With Fix-A-Floor, you don’t need to remove any part of your floor. Just drill your holes and inject the adhesive.

Will the repair be visible after completion?

The only visible aspect of your repairs will be the holes you drill. Fix-A-Floor dries clear and can even be painted over with a colour-matched paint for a tidy finish.

How much do I need for a typical laminate floor repair?

Fix-A-Floor gap fixer is sold in 300 ml tubes as standard, and one tube is usually enough for most trouble spots. However, if you have larger areas to treat, we sell tube bundles as well as three and five litre tubs.

CUSTOMERS LOVE US

Does exactly what it says!

“Bought it to secure 3 loose tiles that were just laid rather than pull them up and relaying. Would recommend to anyone with the same problem.”

Bond A.

Fab product, does exactly what it says.

Bought it to secure 3 loose tiles that were just laid rather than pull them up and relaying. Would recommend to anyone with the same problem, secured the tiles wonderfully, job done

Shaz

Can't fault it. It worked

Used on a large 600mm by 600mm tile laid on concrete floor. Tile was moving probably due to the grout and tile adhesive coming away.

Applied it 2 months ago- as per instruction. It has not moved since."

Multazim M

Good product, easy to use, clear instructions.

Per previous reviews be careful when removing nozzle from hole at this point still very runny, but a finger over the nozzle stops it. Would agree with other users buy an extra tube , Was very pleased with the end results.

Prairie-Fields

Excellent product, beats any other standard product in mainstream DIY stores.

The difference is this is liquid based and it filters through the hole with any assistance.

Expensive but definitely worth it.

Amazon Customer

Delighted!

I bought this product for my husband to fix a number of loose and hollow tiles in our bathroom.
He was absolutely delighted with the ease of use and the end result.
He would recommend this product to anyone with this problem as an efficient and relatively inexpensive solution.
