FAQ

SUITABILITY

What is Fix-A-Floor?

Fix-A-Floor is an extra strength bonding adhesive customised for the specific use of re-bonding loose and hollow marble, porcelain and stone tile floors or even squeaky wood floors without the headache and mess of removing or replacing them. It’s simple and easy to use by anyone who can operate a drill and caulking gun and mix a small batch of grout. Learn more about what Fix-A-Floor is by reading our story.

Will Fix-A-Floor work if I have underfloor heated areas?

Yes, Fix-A-Floor is ideal for use on underfloor heated areas. Although the underfloor heating is generally underneath the substrate, we suggest as a caution to mark the drill to the depth of the tile. Once cured, Fix-A-Floor dries with elastomeric properties meaning it won’t suppress any heat whilst maintaining a strong bond with your tiles. We suggest leaving your underfloor heating off for 24 hours prior to application and slightly longer post-application to allow Fix-A-Floor to cure naturally.

I have thin grout-lines how can I apply Fix-A-Floor?

The tip of each tube is suitable for 2-3mm holes or larger. If the gap in your grout line is less than this you can apply Fix-A-Floor using one of our syringe kits which has a smaller flat steel tip. You can either use a smaller drill to create access points or, alternatively, use a Stanley Knife to scrape out part of the grout.

Can I use Fix-A-Floor to fix my entire floor or just a small area?

Fix-A-Floor works great on all sizes of problem areas from one tile to the whole entire floor! If you’re worried about running out of adhesive, we stock tubes in packs of 3, 6 and 12, or choose our 3 Litre Tub for more substantial repair jobs.

How long has Fix-A-Floor been around? Why Should I use Fix-A-Floor?

Fix-A-Floor has been sold worldwide for over a decade! During that time, it has been used to successfully repair loose and hollow flooring in millions of homes across the globe! In the UK it’s been sold since 2014 and has received rave reviews from tradesmen and customers alike. In 2023, UK trade body The Tile Association awarded Fix-A-Floor as a viable and innovative method for repairing loose, hollow and squeaky flooring. With over a decade of happy customers, Fix-A-Floor is the go-to trusted solution in floor repair.

How long does Fix-A-Floor take to Cure/Dry?

Fix-A-Floor can generally take between 12-24 hours to cure, but this can sometimes vary depending on the depth of adhesive applied underneath your problematic area and also the ambient temperature of the room. If Fix-A-Floor is taking a little longer than normal to cure, there’s nothing to be concerned about as this may be due to deeper areas or room temperature.

Can I use Fix-A-Floor outside on my patio or deck?

Fix-A-Floor is suitable for use predominantly indoors. We only recommend using our adhesive on small outdoor covered areas, provided the area is water sealed and isn’t exposed to excessive water.

Can Fix-A-Floor be used on hollow wall tiles?

Fix-A-Floor is predominantly for loose or hollow tiles on floors, but we have had a lot of customers use it successfully on wall tiles too! Please keep in mind that the adhesive is extremely fluid, so being on a vertical surface it will flow downwards and fill upwards, meaning excess adhesive might be challenging to clean and you may use a little more than normal, depending on the gaps behind your tiles.

Can I use Fix-A-Floor in my shower or Pool?

Fix-A-Floor is not recommended for areas exposed to excessive moisture. It can be used in bathroom areas where the floor is water sealed. Read our guide on how to fix a loose tile in the bathroom for more information regarding areas with excess moisture.

Is Fix-A-Floor Safe?

Yes! Fix-A-Floor adhesive is a non-toxic, non-flammable and eco-friendly water-based adhesive with extensive testing and quality control to ensure maximum safety for all users and tile materials.

Is Fix-A-Floor a PVA Glue?

No, Fix-A-Floor most definitely is not a PVA glue. PVA glues are predominately used for wood applications and would not be suitable as a permanent repair for loose or hollow flooring. Fix-A-Floor is a specially formulated, free-flowing, high-strength adhesive that cures with elastomeric properties, not only ensuring a strong permanent bond with the substrate but also allowing for any fluctuations in temperature or foot traffic on the floor above.

FAQ

PREPARATION & APPLICATION

How many tubes will I need to use on my floor?

This all depends on the extent of the issue underneath your floor. Whilst each standard 300ml tube will cover approximately 4sq ft, the amount of Fix-A-Floor needed can vary depending on the depth and size of the problem underneath the floor. Fix-A-Floor is extremely fluid and will flow freely underneath the flooring to cover the entire void until it exits from one of the opposing holes drilled.

How much pressure do I need to apply when using Fix-A-Floor?

The tip of each bottle is 2-3 mm wide, although this can be cut to larger sizes if necessary. We suggest applying gentle pressure to enable the adhesive to exit from the tip of the tube, either with a caulk gun or using a syringe for thinner grout lines. We also have Fix-A-Floor in squeezy tubes, where applying gentle pressure by hand delivers the same, outstanding results for those looking for a simpler method of repair.

What if I don’t see the adhesive coming up out of the other holes?

Once enough adhesive has filled the gaps in your floors, it will usually seep out of the drilled holes in the grout lines. If this doesn’t happen, move to another hole and continue to fill as the adhesive is still travelling under the floor. If you see the adhesive coming back up out of the hole you are filling, be sure you are NOT pressing the tip of the tube down onto the sub floor.

What if I only use part of a tube?

No problem! Every Fix-A-Floor tube is supplied with a screw-on cap that retains any unused adhesive inside. Fix-A-Floor has an extremely long shelf-life when stored at room temperature, allowing you to use any leftover adhesive for future repairs.

Can the Fix-A-Floor syringe kits be re-used?

Yes absolutely! Simply wash out the syringe kit with warm water after use and you’re all good to use again.

POST APPLICATION / GENERAL

Do I have to place buckets of water on my floor after I Drill & Fill?

It is recommended you place some kind of weight on the area repaired to aid in curing and to be sure no excess adhesive is trapped under your floor before re-grouting. For more guidance on each step of the repair process, explore our how-to guide.
